Equity, diversity and inclusion

At Dementia UK, we are committed to building an organisation and culture where equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are more than principles - they are embedded into everything we do.

We recognise that to truly serve the diverse communities affected by dementia, we must reflect that diversity in our thinking, and our approach. Creating an inclusive environment, where everyone feels respected, valued and able to thrive, is central to our mission and our values of compassion, collaboration, ambition and integrity.

Our EDI journey is ongoing and ambitious. Over the past two years, we’ve made significant progress - but we know there is much more to do. With support from expert partners and our EDI Network, we’ve delivered organisation-wide inclusion training, launched flexible and progressive people policies, and deepened our support for underrepresented staff groups. We’ve also joined national inclusion bodies such as ENEI, introduced protected time for EDI activity, and become a Disability Confident Employer and Menopause Friendly workplace.

We are now planning our first Inclusion Strategy which will build on our strong foundation and sharpen our focus on reaching minoritised communities - both internally through our workforce and externally through Admiral Nursing services. This includes ensuring our services are accessible and culturally appropriate for the people who need them most.

Key highlights of our work so far:

  • Inclusive recruitment practices and adverts supported by Prospectus

  • Mandatory annual EDI training for all staff and managers

  • Active staff-led EDI Network shaping strategy and dialogue

  • Flexible working policies and carers support, co-designed with staff

  • Cultural awareness events and “Connect” sessions to open up meaningful conversations on topics like neurodiversity and LGBTQ+ inclusion

  • Strong wellbeing focus, including mental health support, Medicash benefits, and a growing network of Mental Health First Aiders

We know that creating an equitable and inclusive workplace is a shared responsibility - and a continuous process of listening, learning and adapting. We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and even more excited about where we are going.

We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds, particularly those with lived experience of dementia or from communities underrepresented in the charity sector. If you are passionate about equity and inclusion - and want to join a team committed to delivering impactful, values-led work - we would love to hear from you.
